The first Olympic games was held in greece, Olympia ( south west ). It started over 2, 700 years ago.  Around 50,000 people came to watch the Olympics or came to compete in the Olympics. 77bc to 2016. The first modern Olympics was held in Athens in Greece. The Greek Olympics, thought to have begun in 776 BC, inspired the modern olympics games ( began in 1896 ). The Olympic games was to honor Zeus and other greek gods.
